Albany (ALB), NY

Albany is more than an airport (really). True it's the haunt of bureaucrats and politicians, but also of academics at SUNY, the New York State Museum and the nifty Victorian architecture of the state capitol. The downtown area is compact, easily walkable and contains a number of good restaurants (politicians like to dine when dreaming up ways to spend your dollars).

So head up the Hudson Valley and take a somewhat different look at a familiar place.
Plan to purchase fuel at Signature in Albany to avoid a hefty ramp handling fee.
