Fred was born and raised on Long Island. During his youth, he worked in garages and aquirred the skills as an auto mechanic and then became a licensed NY State Auto Inspector.

He entered the Army in 1960 and became a paratrooper and parachute rigger. In1963 he left the service and went to work for
Gyrodyne Helicopter Co and then Grumman. During this time he began his general aviation flight training, completing his Private Certificate in 1968, and his Instrument in 1973.

In 1973, Fred became a police officer and served for twenty years in the Town of Riverhead. In 1977, he obtained his Certified Flight Instructor Rating and began working part time for Mid Island in 1993.
Fred's part time employment has given him many interesting jobs, including being the owner of H & R Auto Service in Riverhead. He also worked for Ramey Air Service, Flight Safety at Republic Airport and
Spadaro's Auto and Air in Moriches. "My favorite job of all has been working here at Mid Island", says Fred. Fred is married and blessed with children and grandchildren.
