Mike grew up on the north side of Detroit, MI. He started flying at the age of 10. To pay for flight lessons, he worked for his mother's publishing business and was able to get a job at his local airport when he was 14. He soloed an airplane for the first time when he was 16 years old and by starting a landscaping business with his father's lawnmower, he went on to earn his private pilot certificate and instrument rating at age 17 and his commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates at age 18. Mike has been an active flight instructor for the last nine years, teaching at a number of flight schools including Western Michigan University where he was a check airman.
In addition to being an active flight instructor, Mike also has a passion for aerobatic flight. He starting flying aerobatics at the age of 15 and currently teaches aerobatics in the Extra 300. During the air show season, he travels around the country working as a pilot and crew chief for air show performer Michael Mancuso. Mike also works as an aircraft delivery and ferry pilot, moving airplanes all over the United States and Canada. He now has more than 5,000 flight hours in more than 40 types of aircraft including gliders, helicopters, and seaplanes. He is also an FAA certified A&P aircraft mechanic.
Mike used to work as an automotive mechanic and still enjoys working on cars. He also enjoys music and plays several instruments.
