Essay for the Louis Mancuso, Sr., Scholarship

My name is Kevin Grosshandler; I am a student at the Suffolk Aviation Academy studying Airframe Mechanics. My aviation career began last September when I enrolled in ESBOCES at Brookhaven Airport. Since then I find the utmost enjoyment in furthering my education and training everyday. In November of my senior year I began an apprenticeship at the Bayport Aerodrome. I am involved with a restoration team rebuilding a 1953 Yak 12, along with various small repairs to other aircraft on the field.

To finish up my Airframe and Powerplant Certificates, I am attending Honolulu Community College this fall of 2012. I will graduate HCC with an Associates Degree in Aeronautics Maintenance Technology, and move on to a Bachelors Degree in Airport Management.

My long-term aviation goals are to be the Director of Maintenance and eventually owner and CEO of a large FBO/Flight School. In the two short years of my training thus far I have learned the importance of diligence, integrity and excellence in everything I do. My will to succeed and attention to detail continue to bring me success.

I would like to thank you for your time and consideration for the Louis Mancuso Sr. Scholarship.
