People frequently ask me what sparked my passion for aviation. All I know for certain is that my passion for aviation is one that will withstand time.

As a child I often drove past Republic Airport, curious as to what occurred within. I would watch, pressed up against the window, as planes would swoop in from the sky and come to a gentle landing on the runway below. All that separated me from my dream was a chain link fence. Yet, from my seat in the car, it felt like an impossible, mile high wall that only the planes themselves could pass over. I had always dreamt about the adventures that I would have if I were ever able to enter that wondrous place. During my sophomore year of highschool, I got the opportunity. I was finally going to be welcomed on the other side of the fence. It was a dream come true in more ways than I could imagine at the time. I began to do volunteer work at The American Airpower Museum within the airport and my life has never been the same.

Republic Airport has become my home away from home, as I am surrounded not only by aircraft, but people who admire them just as much as I do. The other volunteers have become an extended family and have always made me feel welcome working alongside them. This family has given me invaluable advice and encouraged me to continue to follow my dreams because they will take me on an awe-inspiring flight to extraordinary places.

Any time I feel as if I am unable to make those dreams a reality, I am able to think back to that little girl who just wanted to know what it was like on the other side of the fence. If she could live her dreams, so could I.
