| Press Releases: Mid Island Flying School awards $500 scholarship to New York City Firefighter! Mid Island Air Service, Inc is pleased to announce that they will match a $500 educational scholarship which was awarded to New York City Firefighter, Roger Kilfoil. Roger, a Lake Grove resident, has been a member of Ladder Company 131 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, for the past eleven years. The scholarship was awarded to Roger and nine other New York City Firefighters by the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation. The scholarship is designed to help firefighters reach a scholastic achievement goal. Flight Training is something Roger has always wanted to pursue. With the Burn Center and Mid Island's matching scholarship, Roger will have $1000 to apply towards his goal of obtaining a Private Pilot Certificate. We congratulate Roger on his many years of service to the public and dedication to the FDNY. Local Pilot Flies Over Kitty Hawk! Michael Mancuso, was one of four pilots invited to give an aerobatic flight demonstration at the five day celebration of the centennial of the Wright Brothers flight. The flight was to be recreated on Dec 17th at 10:35am, exactly 100 years after Wilber and Orville made their historic flight, but because of inclement weather it did not fly. The aircraft was an exact replica of the Wright Flyer. Over 35,000 people attended the celebration and dignitaries included President Bush, former presidents, Bush Sr, Clinton and Ford. John Travolta was Master of Ceremonies and Chuck Yeager did a fly-by. Michael performed several times and was thrilled to be a part of such a special aviation milestone. Michael is a partner in Mid Island Air Service, Inc, a flight school began by his grandfather, Louis Mancuso, at Deer Park |
