We'll call this the L.L. Bean run. Portland (PWM), Maine is an easy 2 hour (C172) flight from ISP and the shop 'til you drop ambiance of Freeport...anchored by that icon of all mail order purveyors, L.L. Bean...a mere 20 minutes beyond. Once on the ramp at PWM, cross the road to the car rental agencies.

Freeport is all clapboard and shutters, pilgrims in search of deep discounts and busted Visa cards...but if shopping is on your mind, you've flown the approach to outlet Valhalla. Keep in mind however, that serious shopping means serious weight and balance issues and that, in the scheme of things, is far more important than your credit limit.
We hope you find a bargain, but if shopping gives you as much lift as a 2000' strip at 10,000 MSL on an August day, then forget the car, call a cab and head for the dock in Portland and eat a lobster. The Maine you yearn for is still around.
