Scranton (AVP), PA

Once thought of as a depressed coal town, Scranton, PA (AVP) has come up quite a bit in recent years. Of course you'll never confuse Scranton with the Hamptons, but it does have its strong points.


Most notably what has placed Scranton high on the list of Northeastern attractions is the Steamtown National Historic Park - a completely rehabilitated rail year dedicated to the anthracite belching behemoths that defined reilroading in the early 20th century.
Scranton is actually a great family outing. See the trains, enjoy the shopping in Steamtown, take the coal mine tour and dine at the Lackawanna Station Hotel. Only 1 1/2 hours from ISP in a C172, Scranton is a fast holiday and a sure way to cheer the kids.
