Sport Cruiser - Light Sport Aviation

Two new Sport Cruisers were recently delivered to Sport Flying USA/Mid Island Air Service. They were built in the Czech Republic, test flown and then put in a container and sent to the United States. They arrived in perfect condition without a scratch. Slovia capital is now running the Sport Cruiser factory and doing a great job. Let’s face it they still have the same talented Czech work force that has been building great airplanes for over 50 years, so it should be no surprise the Sport Cruiser is such a fine aircraft.

After helping to re-assemble the Sport Cruiser, I am more excited than ever to be flying and selling this fine aircraft.

Sport Cruiser Comfort

 

The Sport Cruiser’s cabin is cavernous. Its cabin is 46.5 inches wide compared to a Cessna Skyhawk’s cabin at 39 inches. The Eaglet cabin is 43 inches and 45 inches at the shoulders. A 6’ 8” pilot that weighs 280 pounds is right at home in a Sport Cruiser. Entering the aircraft is easily accomplished by simply stepping on the leather seat without fear of damage to the airplane. There are two hand holds, one on the glare shield and another between the seatbacks to facilitate a graceful entry to the luxurious interior.

The throttle is a center console style with a very effective squeeze friction lock. This deluxe throttle is standard on every Sport Cruiser, but optional on some other LSA’s. No detail has been overlooked; the factory design includes a user friendly music jack between the seats installed near the headset and microphone jacks.

The seats are leather with convenient map pockets and a roomy storage console that doubles as an arm rest. The rudder pedals are adjustable by reaching under the panel and pulling on a lever. The Sport Cruiser rudder pedals adjust aft about 6 inches for the 5’2” pilot and shift full forward to accommodate the long legs of a 6’8” pilot. The Sport Cruiser rudder pedal adjustment system is brilliant.

The Sport Cruiser has aileron trim which is not found on any other LSA. This makes keeping the plane in trim and hands off flying a dream.

The air vents are NASA style high quality vents that close tightly in the winter and allow strong cooling in the summer.

 

Sport Cruiser Utility

The luggage areas for the Sport Cruiser are unmatched. There is room for two airline style carry- on bags right behind the seat. As the airline allows 22 inch bags, the 46 wide luggage areas allows two carry-on style bags to lay flat in the luggage area. With your gear so conveniently located and easy to reach, you can comfortably grasp your flight bag or a sweater.

The Sport Cruiser holds 128 pounds of luggage as there are wing lockers in each wing that hold 44 pounds each. They are 17” x 17” x 9”.

The Sport Cruiser carries 30 gallons of fuel in the wings like other conventional GA aircraft . The Sport Cruiser’s ample 30 gallon capacity allows exceptional endurance.

Sport Cruiser Strength and Durability

The Sport Cruiser has six large bolts attaching the wings to the fuselage by way of a one piece continuous main spar that passes under the seats.

You can see the six bolts that attach the wing to the spar and also notice that the Sport Cruiser aluminum is zinc chromate painted for corrosion protection.

Push pull rods are typically found on very expensive planes such as the one half million dollar Mooney Ovation. I was very impressed to find aileron and elevator push pull rods on the Sport Cruiser.

Sport Cruiser Features

• The Sport Cruiser is all aluminum. Mechanics all over the country are familiar working with aluminum and is worth considering when choosing an LSA.
  
• The Sport Cruiser comes with a carburetor heat box as standard.
  
• The Sport Cruiser has classy pre-engineered metal plates that install on the front oil cooler for
  winter operations.
  
• The Sport Cruiser comes with American “AN” standard hardware for easy maintenance wherever you land. All other European made LSA’s use metric hardware.
  
• The Sport Cruiser has American made MATCO disc brakes and Goodyear tires and tubes.
  All the Sport Cruiser tires are Goodyear 500-5.
  
• The Sport Cruiser has full size tie down rings that accept up to ¾ inch rope.
  
• The Sport Cruiser has a large metal fuel vent located under the wing.
  
• The Sport Cruiser has fiberglass gear legs which are more forgiving when a landing is not perfectly straight. The fiberglass is easily repaired if damaged.

A ground adjustable American Sensenich propeller is an approved option for both Tecnams and the Sport Cruiser. The ground adjustable prop can be set for cruising speed up to the max LSA allowable 120 kts.
You can get very nice avionics in your Sport Cruiser or Tecnam. Our next Sport Cruiser and Eaglet will come with a Garmin oversized 8” 695 GPS and a TruTrak EFIS with built in Autopilot with GPS steering and Altitude hold as well as rate of climb. It will have a back up handheld Icom A14 Com in addition to the Garmin SL40, the GTX 327 transponder and the PS 3000 intercom. We will, of course, customize your aircraft to fit your needs. Do you want to listen to your Ipod during flight? No problem, as we will wire a jack to the stereo intercom. How about your cell phone? Let us know which one you would prefer, and we’ll hard wire a cell phone dock onto the panel that will connect to your headsets for getting clearances or talking to your folks to let them know you are on your way!
