Future Pilot Arrives
On Wednesday, September 10th, ISP dispatcher, Tara Parker gave birth to her first child.
Congratulations to Tara and Phil Torio on the birth of their son, Carter Christopher Turio.
He weighed in at 7 lbs 10 oz and was 19 1/2". We wish him good health and a lifetime of happiness.
In Memory: Vincent Nasta
On Sunday, August 17th, we lost a good friend - a teacher, an artist, a pilot...but mostly, a friend!
Vinny always had a funny story and a smile to share - we will miss him greatly and our hearts go out to Katie during this sad time.
If there is a pilot's club in heaven, we know Vinny has arrived with lots of stories to keep even Lindbergh amused!

In Memory: Louis M Mancuso, Sr.
With great sadness, we have said farewell to the founder of Mid Island Air Service.
The family of Louis Mancuso, Sr would like to extend our thanks for all of our friends who have offered support to us this past month.
While so many came to say good bye, we know that we may not have had a chance to personally acknowlege your visit, but we know you were there and we thank you.
We wish him a pleasant, smooth flight!
DID YOU KNOW?
Louis Mancuso, Sr. trained British RAF soldiers in World War II?
In 1941 Winston Churchill made an urgent appeal to the US to provide war materials and pilot training for defense against a superior German air power which bombarded England during the Battle of Britian.
President Roosevelt responded by implementing the Lend Lease Act, which called for the construction of six British Flight Training Schools in CA, AZ, OK, TX and FL. Lou Mancuso was one of the CFI's at #5 BFTS at Riddle Field near Clewiston, FL which trained more than 1700 cadets in the Royal Air Force.
Cadets began basic training in the Stearman PT-17 and completed their advanced training in the Harvard AT-6. These cadets received extensive training in formation flying, acrobatic maneuvers, armaments and instrument navigation.
More than 1300 cadets earned their wings at Riddle Field.
FAA Medicals Now Valid Longer
First and Third Class Medical Expirations Extended
As of July 24th the FAA has extended the duration of 1st and 3rd class medicals for pilots who are under 40 on the day of their medical
First and Third Class medicals will now be valid for 12 and 60 months respectively
Even if your 3rd class has expired, if you were under 40 on the day of the exam, the medical is valid for 60 months from that date
Of course, those of us over 40 still require a third class every 24 months...oh well - we have lots more wisdom!!
See www.aopa.org for full details.
