"The Key to a Successful Flight" For many years, pilots would hang the magneto key on the D.G. knob for safe keeping. This assured a safe pre-flight inspection. The key would remain there while we might make some necessary trips to the F.B.O. office. Of course upon reaching one's destination airport, the key would be placed in the pocket or purse after securing and locking the aircraft. Sept 11th changed all that. In view of warnings from the FAA about possible terrorist activity involving the use of gereral aviation aircraft, it behooves all pilots to be alert and protect the aircraft (whether it is your own possession or a rental). In other words, keep the key in your possession at all times. An aircraft that has been given a pre-flight inspection and topped off with fuel, may be a temptation. Think about it: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Your vigilance is a small price to pay for your safety and the safety of others.
